I am Assistant Professor of Archaeological Science and head of the Osteoarchaeology Laboratory, studying burnt and unburnt human remains at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel on a macroscopic, radiological, and microscopic level. I did a Master in Archaeology of MesoAmerica and a Master of Science in Human Osteology and Funerary Archaeology at Leiden University, the Netherlands. After that, I obtained my PhD in Human Osteoarchaeology also at Leiden University. My PhD thesis (D-lightful Sunshine Disrupted) focussed on vitamin D deficiency as a method for the reconstruction of changes in sociocultural practices due to industrialisation in 17th - 19th century Netherlands. The study of vitamin D deficiency is still an important topic within my research in both cremated and inhumated human remains collections from different parts of the world.
